Why We Do This
This work is deeply personal to us. Michael, the son of our founder, passed away at just 15 years old from complications of a chromosome disorder that included autism and epilepsy. Michael faced immense challenges every day — but technology gave him something remarkable.
Through his iPad, Michael found a way to connect. It became his window to the world — a source of comfort, entertainment, and communication when other avenues were difficult. Watching the difference that a single device made in his life left a lasting impression on our entire team.
That experience showed us the transformative power of technology for people living with disability. It also showed us how much more could be done — if someone with the right skills took the time to set things up properly, to teach patiently, and to provide ongoing support.
TechGurus exists in this space because of Michael. Every participant we help is an opportunity to honour his memory by giving others the independence and connection that technology made possible for him.
